So that delayed train ride was something...at least I met up with a few other girls traveling from the states, and we dealt with it together...unfortunately, we'd chosen a cabin where the light didn't shut off, and that a small fly problem...and if there is a hell, the bathroom on that train must be it. I don't think that I slept very much on that ride, it was all a sort of drowzy blur where my passport was check about 500 billion times...but hey, at least I've got a lot of stamps now!
First impressions of Prague...mmmm...not so much good...that train station is seeeeeeedy! like Richmond bus station at 2 am type. Now this hostel...the Czech Inn has to be the nicest hostel I've ever stayed. There was an elevator, a bar, an internet cafe, freshly painted walls, news beds, fluffy blankets, etc, etc...amazing! After dumping my stuff (because I couldn't check in until 1500) I decided to make a trip to the National Museum...I hadn't been to one of those prehistorical, fossil, exciting museums since I was little, what better place to be re-introduced to our past than in Prague...fun times.
Following the history lesson, I ventured up in to this amazing park, Vysehrad, up where there's the most beautiful cemetary where tons of famous Czechs are buried.
Second impressions of Prague...muuuuuuch better! I ran into some other people from UVa traveling around for the summer, and we did a rather grand scan of the entire city. To start, of course I had to try a Czech croissant...they're of the flaky brown butter tasting variety, quite good. Starting around the "Fred and Ginger Dancing Building," down to the National Theater, across the river to the Petrin Tower overlooking the city, Prague Castle and St. Nick's, Charles Bridge, stumbled into the courtyard of the Kafka museum which had really interesting statues of two guys just sorta chillin' and relieving themselves, and then over to old town to see the astronomical clock show on the hour (anti climatic), and around the Jewish quarter. After finally making it back to the hostel, I had a tasty chimichanga right down the street.
